“The Odd Couple”
King Ludwig II of Bavaria and Richard Wagner
We present a look at an unusual relationship from which came Tristan und Isolde,
Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Das Rheingold, and Die Walküre and the construction
of the Richard Wagner Festspielhaus. We also look at Wagner's influence on the young King
which, at one point, threatened to topple him from the throne.
